As the regular school schedule ended for the long vacations of July-August, the teachers felt it would be important not to leave children idle at home for this duration. They have therefore devised a programme of special activities at the school, and encouraged maximum participation.
The activities include a football tournament, other sporting activities such as volleyball, service projects in the local community such as teaching literacy to illiterate parents and community members, and the Junior Youth Empowerment Programme (JYEP), a programme of participative study in which students engage with ideas about how to be agents of positive change in their community and to make positive contributions to society.
It has been heartening to witness a positive response from students and parents alike, as they choose to participate enthusiastically in these vacation activities.
