A comprehensive programme of teacher training has been launched at the Nakhjavani School, to empower our teachers with particular skills with which they can better educate our students.
Primary teachers are engaged in weekly training facilitated by experienced expatriate teachers from The Belgian School and Lycée Français, Lubumbashi. After a deep-dive into pedagogical theory - aimed at enhancing teachers’ understanding of the difference between knowledge and skills, the purpose of education, and how to be a reflective practitioner - teachers will learn to enhance children’s classroom experience through better use of textbooks, interactive classroom displays, group and project activities in class, structured lesson planning, teaching aids, formative assessment, homework and feedback, and metacognitive practices.
Kindergarten teachers have embarked on a residential training course led by Fondation La Graine, Lubumbashi, in which they are learning not only specific pedagogical techniques but also attitudes towards education, as well as how to create a positive school culture and a nurturing school environment.
Secondary teachers are participating in a rigorous 5-week course by university professors from the ISP (Higher Pedagogical Institute), Lubumbashi, in which they are honing their subject-matter knowledge in core secondary subjects like Maths and French Language, as well as learning advanced techniques for effective teaching.
